So what y'all listening to these days? What's hot in the hit parade? I'm listening to a radio show called Breakin' Bread and it's funky hip hoppy goodness. Not hoppy goodness mind cos that would be beer. www.breakinbread.org/I believe they have a monthly night up in that there London where most to you seem to live

Does anyone use Spotify? We could get a shared playlist on the go - it's much easier listening to stuff than explaining it... And if you don't use it, I highly recommend it, it's great (apart from the occasional advert).

My friend listens to breakinbread but I'm yet to check it out. Mostly I have been listening to podcasts to try and force knowledge into my brain as it's exam time, but I downloaded Lisa Mitchell's song which is on some advert and I can't stop playing it. Also (and this may be controversial) I am very intrigued by Eminem's new album.
I don't really understand what Spotify is. I'd appreciate an explanation, if that's cool and fresh.
Off-topic: I very approve of the Stewart Lee reference, darry.

I tried Spotify for a little while but never really gave it a chance. It really does seem to be the toast of the town when it comes to streaming music.
I'd be up for that though, always like checking other folk's tastes.
Spotify is an application you install and then if you fancy listening to something you can just search for it and then it'll stream to your pc/laptop or whatnot.
I think it's different from the likes of last.fm because last.fm works by not giving you what you search for but similar stuff.
Anyway, some of these other nice people will probably explain it better than me, I didn't really use it all that much.

Spotify is excellent. You go here www.spotify.com and register and then you can search for any song or artist and then it finds that song or artist for you so you can listen to that song or artist for free! It streams it in so you don't have to wait to download or anything. If you get the free version you have to listen to 1 or 2 adverts every 15 minutes, but it's no worse than the radio. In fact, it's much, much better than the radio as there is no Chris Moyles-alike or songs you don't want to listen to. Alternatively you can pay £10 a month for no adverts. What this basically means is it is entirely legal. In conclusion, go Spotify! It has recently been banned from my work as everyone streaming in the music buggered up the iNtErNeT connection, but that doesn't mean it is banned yet from your work. Sign up today. Join the revolution. Sponsered by Spotify.

Yeah, what they said. Anyone who has it, here's a link to a shared playlist for the board:
Just click it and open it with Spotify and it should come up on the list on the right. Search for stuff then drag and drop to add it to the list - only one song there at the moment!

I am flaunting my rebellious self at the rules and logged into Spotify at work. You will be pleased to learn that, yes, I am that much of a badass.
I am not really. IT guy is off for the week. Noone else cares!
I have now added a song.

I tried to come up with a clever remark about you being so badass you're like a number of different characters rolled into, but my brain is clogged up with bacon fat. Someone else do it.
How does adding things to the playlist work?

Click on the link darry provided. You'll be made to log into your account, then the playlist will show up on your little side thing. Then find a song of your choosing and then drag it into that playlist. If there is an easier way to do this (there probably is) then I do not know it. It took forever for my computer to work it out, but that is a lesson for me to learn about not streaming things at work, not for you to worry your pretty wee head about. Now let us never speak of it again.

WHIZZO. Done. Also props to whoever added The Decemberists, for I love them.
And now with Spotify I can check out Eminem's album once and for all...

So which of you smart, hip people added the Mae Shi? I like the Mae Shi. I've added a song, I think.
In more general music listening news, I listened to that acclaimed new album by those tossers The Horrors recently. It made me feel sick. Despite all its commendable little... things, it's such an overt.... thing. I really put my mind to it, tried to listen to it pragmatically and appreciate it, but it's so obviously a "hey, we've got a totally different sound! We're okay now!" kind of... thing. I don't even have a problem with bands shamelessly trying to sound like other bands, the Horrors just did it in the worst way possible.

It was MEEE! I love The Mae Shi. They're ace live too.
The Horrors have changed their sound? I still don't care to bother. I heard they were good live once but I just couldn't stand through whatever it was they were trying to do. Tossers.

What a good idea that shared playlist is. I added a song and it's not hip or up to the minute so you should probably kill me.
I've been listening to Eminem's album quite a bit because it turns out I love him now, as in him as a person, and we're going to get married.

I agree it is a very good idea! Tish tosh, the song you put up is hip! An excellent choice.
I know we don't know eachother, but could I possibly get an invite to that occasion? I'd imagine he throws quite a good 'do'.
I'm not going to add this song to the playlist because it is just hilarious and not cool. Search for: 'I want to be a foetus' by Cursor Miner

I've added one. I've decided that Outside Love is probably the second best album I've heard this year, behind Travels with Myself and Another by Future of the Left.

Travels is indeed the best album of the year so far and possibly of all time. I recently saw Future of the Left live at ULU, and moshed for the first time since... probably since the first time I saw Future of the Left live, a couple of years ago. I very nearly put The Gayest Of Sunbeams up in that playlist, before I over-second-guessed myself and went for an irritating song I barely even like.

You sucker. You should have put a FotL song on.
I don't think only cool things should be added. Just good things, yeah. Effing good things. Anyway it's shaping up to be mindblowingly brilliant playlist so maybe we people here have the best music taste in all of the world. Maybe.

The new FotL album isn't on Spotify yet, or wasn't last time I checked. once it is, we will add it to the playlist in its entirety. I guess since there aren't many people on this forum at the moment, people should feel free to add more than one song. Unless everyone's doing that already. Just so long as nobody goes nuts and puts a whole album on there.

I've put two up now. The Mae Shi and Grandaddy.

I bought The Decemberists album off itunes because I had a voucher, and because of the playlist thing. Hilariously, it didn't download correctly, so I am missing four songs, including the one in the playlist. I've had to write a strongly worded email to them to which they haven't replied.

My other favourite song that album is The Sporting Life. That Animal Collective song is rocking my world. The bit where it drops at 4.45 is great. Getting up to a sunny morning, a cup of tea and that is pretty cosmic.
In other news, I found an iPod that I thought I had lost. Trouble is, I've already replaced it. It's in great condition, and not that old. Only problem is, it's got my name and phone number engraved on the back. I guess someone on eBay will want it.

You can add value to it by rubbing it on your penis before putting it on ebay. This applies to all things put on ebay, and to all real-life situations. He's not wrong. I sure like that Grizzly Bear track, who added it, was it you Anthony? It's in danger of becoming one of those songs that I listen to nonstop over and over again for an entire day. It was me. I mean, why would it be Anthony? It would so clearly be me! For the record, the other songs I've put up are that terrible German (may not be German) pop song about veins, and that terrible (WICKED) emo-type Dylan cover.
